Is Love Enough?

I’ve always believed love was enough.

Even now, with the modernized way of life as we have it.

Seeing more divorces in marriages.

More conflict in the world.

More hate.

That hasn’t changed yet. It only confirmed what I’ve always known

Love is everything.

It’s everything the world needs. It’s everything we need as humans, as a friend, as an acquittance, and a lover.

But is love really enough?

For me, a quick response would be yes. A more detailed response would be ‘Love isn’t always enough but it can be enough’

As humans, we’re naturally self-centered. Very much flawed. Even though the Bible has instructed us to love others as much as we love ourselves, that can be difficult.

Considering other elements like compatibility, and respect in a relationship, which makes love not always enough. With that knowledge too, I believe it can be enough when two people share the same understanding of love.

So, What does love mean to you?

To me, it is accommodating and most importantly, it’s sacrifice.

Because you might not share the same understanding of love with someone but then you love the person regardless because that’s who you are.

Just like I read in today’s devotional.

People aren’t peacemakers because they do peacemaking, Believers in God are peacemakers because that’s who they are, which determines what they do.

So also in the case of love.

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 1 John 4:7

Then, I used to think love was just loving; baring my heart to someone not because God said so but because I wanted to feel loved too just as much as I loved.

My love was expectant.

But that’s not truly what love is.

The best definition is,

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails..1 Corinthians 13: 4-8a

Knowing and acknowledging this makes love enough especially as believers. It applies to every love either with family, friends, lovers, and acquaintances.

So yes, that friendship can work with love.

That relationship can work with love.

Maybe your love just isn’t enough.

Not to sound ignorant but I know the love I’ve had for some people in my life was to me enough. Theirs wasn’t. And yes, in other cases, my love wasn’t enough and theirs was.

It takes two to tangle, specifically in an interpersonal relationship.

Sometimes, as humans, It can be overwhelming to love. Painful to love.

But as cliche as it sounds, love truly is a beautiful thing in every way.

So, whenever we find ourselves not tangling, going to the source of love helps.

God.

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:16
