Soft Start: The Gratitude Thread

Last week was a hassle.

It’s a new week now, and I choose gratitude.

Can I just say?
Fun fact about me: I love Mondays.
Surprisingly, I look forward to the new week just as much as the weekend. Maybe even more.

This is a gratitude post — with five lists of thanks:

1. I’m grateful for life.
I woke up this morning with a start. It’s truly amazing having to sleep soundly and wake up just in time, fully alert. No grumpiness — just a slow stretch and soft words whispered to myself and to God: “Thank you, Jesus.”

2. I’m grateful for sound health.
Last week, I was down — physically, emotionally, mentally, and even financially. I was really going through it. It’s crazy how everything is so connected. When I’m physically down, I get emotional. This affects my mental state. Then all I can do or want to do is cry and sleep.
As for the financial part… story for another day.
But today, I feel much better. I’m sound, and I’m truly grateful.

3. I’m grateful for my family.
Having a home — a place with people you can run to anytime, any day — is truly priceless. My brother had to go back home recently, and the experience he shared with me made me even more thankful. It also made me miss home more.
I find myself reminiscing about the old days. Things are so different now. Then, I think of how it will be when I come home after such a long time. Home may not be exactly the same but its value remains because of family. For that, I’m deeply grateful.

4. I’m grateful for my job.
I’ve been working part-time at a restaurant. Let me just say — it’s been such an experience. This is mostly because of the people. I genuinely love them.
Sure, we have a few fallout here and there coupled up with my grumpiness that kicks in before a shift. It all slowly fades though as soon as I put on my uniform. It, honestly, works like magic..sometimes.
I’m thankful for the work, the people, and the memories we’ve made — the kind that will last a lifetime.

5. I’m grateful for the people around me.
Lately, I’ve found myself observing others more deeply. Seeing people every day has made me appreciate human presence in a whole new way. Life is truly for each and every one of us.
The world is my oyster, and I’m starting to really know and feel that.
Just being around people has brought that truth to light. Not excluding the fact too that humans need humans.

This week, I’m inspired by my experiences and lessons from last week to:

  • Pray more (because prayer really made me feel sound),
  • Express more gratitude,
  • Spend time with loved ones,
  • Have fun,
  • Live in the moment.
  • And yes — Keep grinding gracefully
